Inadequate rehabilitation is likely one reason for reinjury. Return-to-play should be based on multiple criteria and consideration of the demands of an athlete’s sport and position. The ‘L’ protocol as described by Carl Askling (1) involves three core hamstring lengthening exercises: ‘The Extender’, ‘The Diver’, and ‘The Glider’. With the POLICE on the scene I then sought out some high quality research looking at potential rehabilitation programmes and found a RCT from March, 2013 by Carl Askling and colleagues. Two programmes of exercises were compared- A conventional programme (C-Protocol) and a lengthening programme (L -Protocol).
